Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
- In this pivotal role, you’ll support the development and implementation of our Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) Management System:
- You’ll design and improve processes, develop standards and guidance, and ensure our systems are aligned with leading practices such as ISO 45001 and ISO 45003.
- You’ll also play a key part in integrating HSW into core business activities, supporting governance reporting, and contributing to wellbeing initiatives.
- You’ll work closely with internal teams and external partners to ensure our HSW management system is current, relevant, and effective - helping everyone go home safe, every day.
- To be successful in this role you will bring a commercial mindset to your work and bring forward pragmatic solutions. You will ideally have a strong drive to enhance work processes, focus on the things that matter, and keen to engage with a wide range of stakeholders.
Ō Pūkenga | What we're looking for
Our ideal candidate will have some or all of the following (but don’t worry if you don’t tick every box):
- Health and Safety subject matter expertise, ideally in infrastructure, transport, or public service environments
- Strong understanding of government policy and legislation relating to Health and Safety-
- Strong understanding of ISO 45001 and ISO 45003
- Experience in process mapping, developing policies and programmes
- Experience leading, influencing, and building credibility across a range of stakeholders
- Excellent communication and change management skills, with the ability to engage and influence at all levels
- Strong analytical, interpretation, and problem-solving skills
- Experience with Safety Management Systems, reporting databases, and MS Office tools (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, PowerBI, Teams & SharePoint)
- Tertiary qualification in Occupational Health & Safety, science, health, medical or related disciplines, and more than 2 years’ experience in a related HSW role
- Additional technical qualifications or experience in change management, risk management, regulatory services, policy, or related fields
You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori. You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of Te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector.
