About the HSR Hub

About the HSR Hub

The Government Health and Safety Lead welcome you to the Health and Safety Representatives' Hub.

Thank you to all Health and Safety Representatives (HSRs) across New Zealand. You play an important role in keeping workplaces healthy and safe, and helping ensure your colleagues get home safe every day.

The government sector has a diverse risk landscape, with many agencies responsible for carrying out functions that put workers, particularly those in frontline roles, in situations with potential to cause physical and/or psychological harm. As senior leaders, we work hard to ensure our agencies manage risk well to protect our workers and to support their overall health, safety and wellbeing.  We can't do this effectively without your contribution and support.

As a worker and a representative of other workers, you help bridge the gap between what we as senior leaders might think is (or should be) happening, and what's really happening.  You have a unique role in translating the needs of workers through to us, to help us understand the processes behind the work, and to work with us to create safer ways of working.

It's important therefore that you have access to adequate training, tools and resources to support you in your role and we are pleased to provide you with this new HSR Hub to supplement the resources your individual agencies already provide for you.

Along with practical tools and resources, the HSR Hub is somewhere can celebrate the important work you do as HSRs by showcasing the Government H&S Rep of the Year awards, sharing stories from some of the HSRs across the sector, and providing a platform for you to reach out to HSRs from other agencies.

I hope you enjoy what the HSR Hub has to offer, and that it helps you in your role.

Thanks again for your contribution.

Ngā mihi

The HSR Hub is a place where HSRs from government agencies, and others, can come to get some inspiration and to access practical tools and resources.

You can listen to key messages from the former Minister of Workplace Relations, the former Chief Executive of Worksafe NZ and the National Secretary of the PSA. You can be inspired by our key note speaker Maisy Bentley, and you can celebrate the successes of the sector HSR of the Year Awards. The hub also includes information about your role as a HSR, interactive learning resources on Health and Safety Basics, and Mentally Healthy Work, and it includes links and information to important websites, apps and training providers.

Over time, with your help, we'll build the hub to be the "go to" place for HSRs. Be sure to provide us feedback and ideas via email.

Please go and explore your hub.
