Celebrating our Finalists and Winner of the 2021 Health and Safety Representative of the Year Awards

On the 6 May, we hosted the 2021 Health and Safety Representative of the Year Awards. This year’s ceremony looked a little different to previous awards, with a small intimate ceremony of 40 attendees consisting of our finalists and their agency representatives. It was great to be able to bring together our finalists and their supporters to celebrate their efforts in championing health and safety in their agencies.

Shelley Easton (NZTA), Andy Auer (NZTA), Ashleigh Fedorenko (MoJ), Sgt Damian Ison (NZDF), Natalie Price (MFAT), Susan Keenan, and Sophie Hagen (MPI).

The role health and safety representatives play as the voice of the worker is an essential part of an effective health and safety system. We are pleased to be able to celebrate some of the incredible work our reps do across the sector.

Our judges were extremely impressed with the nominations received and the calibre of the work from our finalists in contributing to their agency’s health and safety efforts.

 Our finalists were:

  • Sgt Damian Ison from New Zealand Defence Force
  • Shelley Easton from Waka Kotahi New Zealand Transport Agency
  • Susan Keenan and Sophie Hagen (joint nomination) from Ministry for Primary Industries
  • Natalie Price from Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade
  • Andy Auer from Waka Kotahi New Zealand Transport Agency
  • Ashleigh Fedorenko from Ministry of Justice

2021 Health and Safety Representative of the Year

We are pleased to announce that the 2021 Health and Safety Representative of the Year is Natalie Price from Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Natalie has fundamentally changed how workers at MFAT view health and safety within the agency and improved their overall willingness to engage on health and safety matters. Natalie exemplified the role of a health and safety representative by helping to create a culture in which the H&S Committee and HSRs are recognised as the voice of the workers.

Natalie Price (Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade), 2021 Health and Safety Representative of the Year.

Congratulations Natalie!

Thank you to all our agency health and safety teams for supporting the health and safety representatives and the work they do.

You will be able to watch the highlights from the awards ceremony shortly on our new Health and Safety Representative Hub which is launching later this month! Keep an eye out for the launch.

Tracy Klenner (PSA), Natalie Price (MFAT), Ray Smith (MPI/GHSL).
