Lead - H&S Generalist Job Family
H&S roles of this nature are often seen as being at the pinnacle of the career journey unless you have an opportunity to step beyond this into an executive role. Individuals in these posts will most likely have extensive practical and management experience gained across a number of years, and possibly across a variety of industry sectors.
Possible role titles include:
H&S Manager, Team Leader, Specialist, Principal Adviser, National Co-ordinator and National Manager
What could you be doing in this role?
In roles of this nature, you are the trusted H&S advisor to the organisation, providing expert advice, working more at a strategic rather than operational level, and frequently interacting with the Executive Team and up to the Board. Other broad activities and attributes could be:
- You will be an experienced strategic thinker, with experience of change management and strong business acumen.
- Sitting as part of the senior management structure in the organisation, your insight and experience are often called upon to form part of business decisions and strategic goals.
- You are seen as a strong leader who can effectively influence across all levels of the organisation.
Qualification
At this level it is expected that you will have a level 7 NZQA H&S qualification, a degree or masters degree. To showcase your technical HSW expertise and knowledge.
At this level, you would be expected to demonstrate a wide range of competencies such as an experienced strategic thinker, strong business acumen, experience in change management and effective communicator, collaborator and influencer across all levels of your organisation. You will also be a NZISM Certified Professional and HASANZ Registered and/or a NZSC Registered Safety Professional and HASANZ Registered.
