Getting Started - Entry Level roles (H&S Generalist Job Family)


It is not unusual for people to enter the H&S generalist profession via an entry level role especially if you are a graduate. This entry level stage is a great landing point on the career ladder to find out if HSW career is for them and whether its for them. The role is generally hands-on, interacting with people; as communication is a bit part of the role along with the opportunity to making a difference. This aspect of H&S is sometimes where people feel they can add the most value.

 

Possible role titles include:

H&S Graduate or H&S Co-ordinator, Junior Advisor or Entry level Officer.

 

What could you be doing in this role?

  • You may be the first point of contact for initial H&S information via inbox or phone
  • You will understand how processes can and should be used in practice and you will provide support to front-line workers and supervisors.
  • May be custodian of H&S systems, such as documentation, reporting database etc.

 

Qualification and Competencies

At this level, while desirable, qualification is not required. It is recommended that you are working towards NZQA level 4, and are a NZISM Affiliate, and/or a NZSC Student.
