Senior Adviser Safety & Wellbeing | Wellington City

Senior Adviser - Safety & Wellbeing

Role type: Permanent

Location: Wellington

General Salary Range – Band D: $98,955 - $132,427 depending on skills and experience

About the Role - Kōrero mō te Tūranga

As a member of the Central Health, Safety & Wellbeing team, you will provide advice and support to MPI's business units and directorates. You will support the business to align their operational risk management practices with organisational health and safety policy and procedure, and to identify opportunities to further strengthen their practices.  To get the best results you will work collaboratively with Operational Health & Safety Advisers and stakeholders such as People & Capability, Security & Privacy, Procurement, Property Services and Legal, to get the job done.

We can promise the work will be incredibly interesting, diverse, and sometimes challenging.  This is a role where there is a real opportunity for you to innovate, improve, and make a sustainable difference to health and safety outcomes for MPI's people.

About You - Mōu

The complexity of the work in very different environments can be challenging, so you'll need to lean on your experience in the public sector.  You'll be engaging with different business units and you will need to be flexible, rather than focussing on a one-size-fits-all approach. Influence is important, and just having expertise as a subject matter expert won't suffice. Your report writing and presentation skills will be very much valued because you will write papers and present these to the HSW Governance Committee. You will be adaptable across different portfolios and be comfortable working with ambiguity.

To flourish in this role you will also have:

  • Relevant health and safety qualifications and/or proven health, safety, and wellbeing experience working for a multi-site, complex organisation (and preferably within a high-risk environment or industry)
  • Experience in critical risk management and contract management
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to write concise reports for Governance as required
  • The ability to work collaboratively and lead engagement with stakeholders

About the Team - Mō tō mātou Rōpū

The Central Health, Safety & Wellbeing team works with Operational Health and Safety Advisers across MPI to improve health and safety outcomes for our people while they are doing their mahi. Our people work in diverse environments including paddocks, orchards, forests, oceans, meat plants, laboratories, airports, ports, transitional facilities, and corporate offices.  This means the type of work our team gets to be involved in is varied, interesting and sometimes challenging.

The wider central Health, Safety and Wellbeing team is a team of ten with a mix of Advisers and Seniors who are passionate about collaborating and promoting ongoing health, safety, and wellbeing across MPI. This role reports to the Manager Strategy and Assurance within a smaller team of four Advisers.
